Home Tour: Powder Room

Hello Everyone,

How was your weekend? Mine was pretty busy; our two boys started baseball on Saturday. Let the weekends on a metal bench with lots of screaming parents begin. No, I truly love watching them play.

So, our turtle paced home tour continues. Today we visit the Powder Room, or half bath. It’s a very tiny space that has a lot of potential and also gets used a lot.

We are closing in on our 2 year mark in our new home.  While that time has flown by, it has also revealed a not so productive home project list.  The reality is that when you have a large family and throw in life events like a wedding or couple of graduations and just your normal routine, your free time to work on projects just isn’t there. fullsizeoutput_3a8a

Let me share with you what is on our list for this space.  We are 100% sure we will paint it and add wood.  Mr Chaos would like to see bead board and I would like to see wood trim 5 feet tall–either vertical 1 x 2’s or horizontal planks.  So, we are in agreement for the most part.  After those two projects are finished, I would like to change out the mirror.  I have been looking for a mirror for that space for some time and just haven’t found one that I love.  Perhaps after the wood and paint are finished it will be more obvious what will look better.  I’m also on the hunt for a small dresser that can be made into a vanity.fullsizeoutput_3a88

Though our house is new; there is absolutely no storage.  The powder room space is small and needs creative storage to help.  Ideas now are shelving and/or a dresser turned vanity.  I love baskets; however, there isn’t much floor space to work with either.fullsizeoutput_3a8b

The most successful way for me to achieve the look I am planning for and meet our needs is to go at it slow.  I have made mistakes in previous homes because I wanted everything done immediately.  This not only wastes money, but also time.  Truly though, we have not just been in the planning stage for two years.  This past fall we raked rocks for weeks so that we could plant grass, last spring we added a deck for our family and an outbuilding for Mr Chaos.

Little by little as time and budget permits, we will continue making this home our home.

Have a wonderful day!

XO,

Susan
